19 January 1942, afternoon “Thank you for seeing me, sir,” LCdr Kyle Robinson tells Capt Richard O’Mally, forgoing the formality of a salute.
It is clear to O’Mally that the commander of Bristlemouth is agitated. Choosing to overlook the breach in Naval etiquette, O’Mally waits for Robinson to get whatever is bothering him off his chest. Sometimes being a commander means giving your subordinates an opportunity to vent before they do something drastic.
Holding paper toward O’Mally, Kyle continues, “What’s the meaning of this?”
O’Mally takes the paper and quickly recognizes the new directive to discharge all servicemen of Japanese-American descent. He then recalls that Bristlemouth has such an individual among her crew.
“As though sensing his superior’s thoughts, Robinson says, “PO Wanabe is a loyal American and a d…d fine radio operator and I don’t want to lose him…sir!” Kyle remembers to add the last as he struggles to contain his frustration.
"Well, Lieutenant Commander, these orders come down from higher than us. They are preventive measures due to the best of spies being the least likely that you could suspect. Also, Commander, all it takes is the right time and he can sabotage the Bristlemouth and it would be to late for you to do anything about it. So I must have you carry out your orders for the safety of your ship. That being said, I understand that a few such military men are forming the Varsity Victory Volunteers, to assist where they can."
Having no other choice, but not liking it, Kyle salutes and with a less than enthusiastic, “Aye aye,” does an about face and exits.

Early September, 1943: CDR Lindsay arrives for his requested meeting with Captain O'Malley. "Captain - I respectfully request a new assignment to one of the Balao boats" (Navy Cross roll #1 - 1-3 successful) 3HksYG7F"Thank you, sir <salute>. I request my crew be transferred as well, but if there's an opening for Mr. Hanson to get his own boat, I understand" I'll let you fill in the rest - I request the Seahorse. My XO getting promoted roll is needed, and my expert 3O will become my new expert XO if that happens It's a one-month delay, so I can patrol in October 1943. I lose my Battle Stars but keep the rest of my awards. My patrols still count, so I'll get another advancement roll after my next (6th) patrol.

Still not to be discouraged, CDR Tom Shoals continues:
"Well sir, at least join me for a drink at the O Club."
Captain Richard O'Mally grabs his hat and they head out the door.
"Tell me about your last patrol Tom." he says.

CDR Lindsay waits impatiently outside the office before finally being let in.
"Sir, this is ridiculous! Re-based in Australia? Who gave these orders? My Chief Engineer could be months in Hospital, I'll have to replace him. And my CO thousands of miles away? What's your call, sir?"
Can we re-base in this campaign, or do we ignore that Random Event and always stay at Pearl?
Also, I'll need an XO roll as usual and a roll for my seriously wounded Chief Engineer - if he's out more than a month he'll get replaced (1 in 10 chance of new Expert CE, I lost all my Battle Stars, heh)
Captain O'Mally has investigated the claim that you have been ordered to Rebase - "This message has now been checked and it appears that the USS SEASHORE was the intended recepient of that message and unfortunately the radio operator got the right letters but in the wrong order. So as you were, Commander Lindsay, you are staying in Pearl; well that is unless you go for promotion and make Captain and if that happens you will be leaving and it may well be Brisbane, in which case this may have been an omen."
"As for the other things, they will be sorted out during refit. Now, shut the *&$@ up and have a drink with me, we need to discuss your promotion board scheduled for May next year."

CMD Tom Shoals of the USS Humunuku reports to the office of Captain Richard O'Mally.
"Sir, I've given some thought to the upcoming promotion review. Although I would be deeply honored if the board chose to promote me to Captain, my ego wouldn't be bruised if I did not receive a promotion at this time. Right now the USS Humunuku and I have a lot of unfinished business with the enemy. Thank you for listening, sir."
"Ok Tom, I respect your decision and am glad you are staying with us, there will always be other opportunities."

26 November 1943, midmorning
Cdr Kyle Robinson walks into his CO’s office appearing somewhat subdued. After saluting and reporting in he says, “Sir, I’ve decided to forgo promotion and remain in command of Bristlemouth, if that’s alright with you. Though I know it won’t be with someone else.” The last Kyle says only to himself, dreading telling Kelly that he won’t b accepting a safe assignment ashore, especially after proposing to her last night.
"Ok Kyle, I know that was a tough decision to make, so I am glad you are staying with our team. I am sure there will be other occasions in the future."
