Boat ID: USS Sea Cat Successful Patrol: Yes Number of Freighters or Tankers Sank: 1 (Taigyo Maru, 6900 tons) Warships/Capital Ships Sank: 1 (DD Hubuki, 2100 tons) Total Tonnage Destroyed: 9000 tons Special Assignment Completed: NA Refit Time: 1 month (1 system damaged), back in service December 1944 Awards Requested: Battle Star, Sub Combat Patrol Insignia
Patrol highlights: 0/4 torpedo duds. Attempted close range daylight attack against DD Yamakaze, but she saw us and placed an accurate depth charge spread, causing a crew KIA before we evaded her.
Shot down an Emily off the north coast of Honshu, lost the 40mm AA gun and minor wounds to the gun crew as it attacked.
Otherwise not a lot of activity found in the home waters. Disappointing.

Patrol: China Sea
A very quiet patrol in the China Sea. Sunk two ships, each unescorted.
Sep 29, 1944 Detected a lonely large tanker - Kyokuei Maru (10,600t) - at night. Released one Mk 18 at close range on surface and planned to follow with deck guns. Must have hit the fuel tanks because the explosion was deafening. The tanker sunk beneath the waves in minutes.
Oct 12, 1944 Another lonely ship - Takusei Maru (3500t) - at mid-day. Followed same plan to fire one Mk 18 at close range and follow with deck guns. The Mk 18 must have hit the boiler because the freighter burst and cracked the hull. It too slipped under in minutes.
Oct 24, 1944 In transit back to Pearl had to crash dive from aircraft. Good training payed off as we smartly dove under in quick time.
Torpedoes fired: 2 Torpedoes on target: 2 Torpedoes failed to detonate: 0 (0%)
USS Humunuku will be ready for patrol in Dec
