Welcome to the Fainting Goat Pull up a chair, and sit on down.
Feel free to discuss anything in a role play environment for your submarine's crew.

November 29th 1941
Four sailors, just arriving port, 5 sailors enter into the Fainting Goat. On the wall is the heads of goats, which looks like the taxidermist had to much time on his hands.
"Petty officer, we'd like 5 Schiltz's please." The 5 men then make their way over to one of the near by tables.
"We all know that things have been heating up in Europe. So we need to make sure that the Trumpet Fish is ready to set sail at a moments notice In the mean time, I feel that we should all get acquainted.
I am Lieutenant Commander Gordon Piccard, I previously served on board the USS R-20 as the Executive Officer before being given command of the Trumpet Fish. I am originally from Tulsa Oklahoma.
He then asks his Executive officer, to talk a little about himself. "I am Lieutenant Commander Kevin Carpenter, I am from Perham Minnesota, I grew up fishing and skating on the great lakes, my last assignment was as the third officer on the USS Montgomery, a mine layer, that is currently here in Pearl."
The next to speak was Lieutenant Walter Longmire, "Hi, I grew up a rancher in Buffalo Wyoming. If it breaks I can get it fixed. My last asingmnet, was the Tugboat, USS Sotoyomo.
Up next was Lieutenant Junior Grade Lloyd Armstrong. "Hi, This is only my second assignment, I just transferred on board from the USS Perch. I call Chicago Illinois, my home."
The last of the 5 gentlemen to speak was Petty Officer Leroy Slade, I will be your ships doctor, I am from Pounchotula Louisiana. Now that I've introduced myself sir, may I leave for the NCO club?"
As Petty Officer Slade went to leave 2 more officers walked up from the Trumpet Fish. (thanks crushedhat for the Crew Allocation sheet, I put it on my google drive)
Ah gentlemen, we were just introducing ourselves, why don't you sit down, and tell us a little bit about yourselves. Petty Officer Miles, another round please."
The first of the twp says, "I am Lieutenant David Schmidt, I will be our plotting officer I am from Milwaukee Wisconsin."
"I am from the town of Metropolis Illinois, I am Lieutenant JG Thomas, I prefer Tommy, Lancaster. I will be our Torpedo Officer."

while sitting at the bar, waiting for my XO, I overhear a man introduce himself to another crew as the torpedo officer. I gotta get to know this man, I think. I wander over to the table and tap him on the shoulder. Hello, Tommy, I say. I am Lt. Commander Frank of the USS Angelfish. I just want to chat you up a bit about some rumors my engineering officer has mentioned to me.................

LTJG Lancaster looks up, "I'm not sure how much I can help sir, I'm assigned to the USS Trumpet Fish, and other than times like now I'm stuck with the crew. My official title is Torpedo Gunnery Officer."

Damn. I did not catch that part. I am sorry, young man, but let me ask you, have you been having conniption fits with the exploders on the MK14? My torpedo man has been tearing his hair out!

A young Ensign Paul Wouke approaches LCdr Charles Frank. “Excuse me, Sir,” he begins,”I couldn’t help but overhear your conversation with Trumpet Fish’s Torpedo Officer.” Paul pauses, half expecting a rebuke from the senior officer. When none is forthcoming he continues, “You mentioned problems with the Mk14 exploders. Have you acutally had an opportunity to fire live torpedoes? All we’ve used so far are practice fish with inert warheads.”

December 5 1941
"This place sure is silent tonight" LT Longmire says to his drinking companion. "yeah I know, never thought we'd miss those flyboys that just went out" LTJG Lancaster replies.
suddenly, there is noise in the street as a battleships worth of enlisted men and officer go streaming by.
"Well I guess that must be the USS Arizona arriving, man those guys sure know how to be loud"

LtCdr Thomas Marshall was getting impatient at this heard of enlisted rabble fresh off the Arizona on a 24 hour liberty. Hell, half those kids look barely old enough to enlist, much less have a drink.
He just got in to Pearl after getting orders to report to Pearl to take command of the Weatherfish. He hadn't even seen the boat yet. However, there was one thing he did know; he needed a beer.
Especially, after that trip....
What a whirlwind... he had been in Seattle on leave visiting his fiance and her family when he got word to report ASAP to Pearl. Between taking the Coast Starlight down the coast, and then the flight from San Francisco to Pearl, he was beat.

They say the metal that the exploder is made out of seems weak and could crush when it hits a ship. I don't know and cannot tell you if they are right or wrong, but when I heard that young man talking, I had to ask if he sees the same thing. Come to think of it, my EO says the depth mechanism is suspect too. All I can say is that if they are right, we are in for one hell of a shitstorm when we, sorry, son, IF we ever have to use 'em.

As LtCdr Marshall is sitting at the bar, a young Ensign belly's-up between a couple of stools next to him. The Bartender asks, "Whad'yl it be, sir?" The Ensign replies slowly, after he is staring at the back bar "...Wha... Oh... umm, beers, two beers, please. NO, i mean, make just one, thanks." as he replied as he looked over his shoulder back at the tables behind with the some of the other boats' crews. LtCdr Marshall takes a long sip off the fresh pint, and glances over at the Ensign. "You doing okay there son?" Asks Lt.Cdr. Marshall. "What were you guys just talking about back there? Something with the torpedoes not exploding?"

(OOC - I will forego quoting the preceding post in the chain so long as this post immediately follows the one it references.)
“The Commander was just saying that he has questions about the Mk 14’s reliability and I was wondering if he had any live fire experience to base it upon. All our shots have been with inert practice torpedoes, sir.” Wouke isn’t sure how much to say to a superior officer without getting into trouble. Deciding to go for broke he adds, “I also think he expects a war. I’m not sure which of the two thoughts is more disturbing. Want one…sir?” Paul almost forgets to add the last as he holds out a pack of Lucky Strikes towards Marshall.

"Why thank you, Ensign." LCDr Marshall extends his hand to take a cigarette from the pack. He quickly puts it to his lips and takes a light from the Ensign and takes a drag.
"The problem with those torpedoes is this. Those BuOrd boys are too cheap to try em out, they've never even used em live-- in a test or otherwise..." rebukes Marshall. He takes another drag on the cigarette and extends his neck back to blow the smoke up. "I don't know about you, but I'm not scared of war. We all know it's coming. It's just a matter of where those Japs hit first. You know?" My moneys on somewhere in the Philippines. They need the oil and resources in that area. They'd be fools to hit here", says LtCdr Marshall with a chuckle.
