in 2001 the USS Devil Fish was discovered off the coast of Japan, she was later flagged as a war grave. Her logbook was discovered and the last entries read: October 19th we encountered a convoy under escort, we sank all 4 vessels, while sustaining no damage.
October 22nd we encountered a convoy under escort, we sank 3 of the 4 ships but was critically damaged and forced to return to port early. We have sustained Hull Damage, our periscope is destroyed, we lost our aa guns, our SD Radar has been destroyed, Engine 3 will need to be replaced, and our Port Torpedo tubes hatch is broken, not that it matters we have no torpedoes left to fire.
The last log entry is dated October 29th, 1944. It appears as if the USS Devil Fish struck one of the mines along the coast and sank.
